Reportage

Most of my reporting now lives at El Colectivo 506, but here are a few earlier pieces:

The Tico Times, February 2016: “Discovering Henrietta: The Alabama Woman Who Became Costa Rica’s First Lady”

This deeply personal piece takes a look at the incredible true story of Henrietta Boggs, who visited Costa Rica as a young woman in 1940 – her first trip ever outside the United States – and met and married future revoluntionary and Costa Rican President José “Pepe” Figueres.

The Tico Times, September 2005: “Indigenous Schools Lack Funds.”

I wrote many stories as a Tico Times reporter covering politics, business and more from 2004-2007, but my favorites were all about education, like this story about a heroic teacher and advocate.

The Tico Times, March 2016: “Costa Rican students get the surprise of a lifetime – a trip to NASA”.

I was proud to tell the story of how extraordinary Costa Rican scientist Sandra Cauffman surprised six deserving high-school students with the voyage of their lives.
